Who we are
While the loss of a home is a tragedy for anyone, it’s especially devastating for families. Leaders in our community were shocked to learn in 1999 that over 1000 kids in our area were homeless. That heartbreaking number prompted the opening of Salem Interfaith Hospitality Network. We began as a grassroots effort by a few local faith congregations and we first began hosting families in May of 1999. Today, our mission has not changed. Over 2,000 volunteers are mobilized from the over 42 congregations in the mid-valley to provide emergency and short-term housing for homeless families with children. With your support, we alleviate homelessness by providing shelter, meals and compassionate assistance. Through our 2020 Strategic Plan, Salem Interfaith Hospitality Network will serve more families than ever before through emergency and long-term housing.
